Job description

Brompton is seeking a Systems integrator to join our Electric Systems department. The role will be responsible for building and testing Electric drive system prototypes to support the integration of the electrical system on Brompton product lines. The responsibilities include prototype building and testing, liaising with the project teams to ensure the integration activities are aligned with project milestones and lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis of any issues that may come up during those activities. Tasks may also include test equipment maintenance; calibration of the bike performance profiles and test management. The successful candidate will operate as a key member of the team, integrating hardware software and control systems on the bikes through an iterative approach to mature the Electric drive system. Within the Electric Systems team, the candidate will work closely with the system, software, and electronic teams to ensure components are fit for purpose on the final product. The successful candidate will work on optimising performance and cost to deliver excellent electric-assisted bicycles to thousands of riders.

SKILLS REQUIRED

• Experience of prototyping and troubleshooting electro-mechanical products
• Experience of using testing to guide investigations & improvements
• Good communication skills and ability to collaborate efficiently with different teams and stakeholders
• Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience of working on motors preferred
• Experience of taking a product through to production is an advantage
• Good understanding of product development lifecycle is an advantage
• Familiarity with electric pedal assisted bicycle technology is an advantage
• Familiarity or Experience working with, and testing electronics (controller, circuit boards) is desirable
• Familiarity or Experience using CAD tools to design prototypes parts and testing tools and equipment is desirable

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The general duties and responsibilities are:

• Integrating the Brompton electric drive systems on bikes, testing components and building prototype bikes

• Develop and maintain test scripts and test procedures

• Develop test plans and test reports

• Perform systems-level testing of the E-drive system

• Troubleshooting of any issues or anomalies that may come up during integration activities, performing root cause analysis and liaising with the functional owners to report on status, support investigation and resolution

• Collaborating closely with product designers and system engineers to ensure components are suitable for product needs
• Assisting the support engineers in creating & commissioning appropriate test rigs for system testing
• Working with the team to define test equipment and components required to validate the Brompton drive system

QUALIFICATIONS AND PERSONAL

Engineering Technician or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent.
