Job Purpose

Brompton has ambitious plans for growth over the next 5 years and a key part of this is the introduction of new products, which includes new-to-market products, parts & accessories, and updates to our existing products.

This role will be part of the New Product Introduction (NPI) team of engineers responsible for bringing these exciting new products to market, right from the Design stage through to mass production in our West London factory.

The Senior Project Engineer will lead a team responsible for delivering the Brompton ‘Roadmap’ - diversifying our product portfolio, developing our internal processes, and paving the way to make changes more agile.

Main duties

· Lead the Projects team to meet delivery, performance, and improvement targets for each project. Regular workload monitoring, prioritizing and adjusting.

· Report out program status and preparing gate review documents for leadership team.

· Manage product launch readiness for Manufacturing Engineering to ensure deliverables are met to plan and we have flawless integration of new products into the factory.

· Help develop the strategy for ‘Special Edition’ projects and model year updates.

· Develop a robust make/buy decision matrix to compare in-house manufacture with external.

· Research and implement new and innovative ideas to drive enhanced operational activities across the business.

· Produce production impact analyses, analysing the effects on the whole factory and distilling this to key KPIs, such as the cost to manufacture.

· Work closely with the Design department to ensure final product specifications are suitable for mass production. Ensure robust feedback loops between departments, and communicate lessons learnt once products are in production.

· Work closely with the Product Management team to optimise the value for the customer at the lowest complexity impact in the factory.

· Ensure the highest quality throughout, minimise teething issues and faults through PFMEA and formal root-cause analysis investigations.

· Work closely with the in-house Tooling & Equipment department to deliver in-house jigs and fixtures, produce requirement specifications, and sign off validation trials.

· When needed to purchase new equipment: liaise with machinery suppliers, produce CAPEX budget requests and business cases, negotiate new machinery purchases. Perform risk assessments where appropriate.

· Be responsible for designing/adapting the manufacturing process for new products.

· Perform verification trials and evaluate the ease and repeatability of the manufacture of new products.

· Plan and execute pre-production builds, digital systems tests, and ramp up to production.

· Once successfully productionised, hand-over the projects to the wider Manufacturing Engineering team with a robust handover document and ensure that all other paperwork and records are complete.

· Enforce correct working practices within the team, such as document standards and control and HSE requirements.

Skills and Requirements

· Ability to lead a cross-functional team

· Exceptional self-motivation and a pro-active confidence needed to identify and prioritise work

· Project management skills and the ability to manage stakeholders

· Good communication skills and the ability to produce concise and good quality project metrics

· Technical experience of LEAN principles and other manufacturing techniques

· Problem solving experience using Root Cause Analysis, DMAIC or other methods

· Excellent understanding of mechanical and engineering principles


The ability to demonstrate a solid engineering background in a relevant environment is essential, with at least 5-7 years’ New Product Introduction experience in manufacturing with project management experience. Prior people management experience is preferable.
