The Role

Brompton has ambitious plans for growth over the next 5 years and a key part of this is the introduction of new products, which includes new-to-market products and running changes to existing products.

This role will be responsible for supporting the New Product Introduction (NPI) team of engineers in bringing exciting new products to market, right from the Design stage through to mass production in our West London factory.

Main duties

• Support the NPI Manufacturing Engineering team to deliver new products to the factory.
• Aid in the design, creation and documentation of new production facilities, tools, and processes.
• Support PFMEA activities and run formal root-cause analysis investigations.
• Prepare operator manuals.
• Run production trials and validation trials, writing up the reports.
• Conduct timing studies for optimization. Record data for Six Sigma projects.
• Work closely with production to help manage trial builds and changes to products.
• Liaise with many different areas within the business and ensure good communication between them.
• Create project plans and manage them to completion.
  

Skills and Requirements

Essential

• Strong problem-solving and self-motivated attitude.
• Knowledge of Manufacturing Engineering principles e.g. Lean Manufacturing, 8 wastes, 5S, Kanban.
• Knowledge of common manufacturing methods e.g. machining, casting, forging, laser cutting, welding, injection moulding, 3D printing.
• Ability to create Engineering drawings.
• Ability to produce clear instructions in written English.
• Highly computer literate.

Preferable

• Genuine interest in cycling and the bicycle industry.
• Good understanding of bicycle design and assembly.
• Understanding of tolerances and tolerance stacks.
• Familiarity with Six-Sigma tools.
• Experience with 3D CAD software (ideally SolidWorks).
• Exposure to Brompton parts and processes.
• Competent in use of hand tools including understanding torque settings, lubricants and thread lock.

Education

Background in Engineering or Manufacturing, ideally at degree level. Solid foundation in Maths and Physics.
