The role

Ensure that Brompton processes are developed, realised, and verified in-line with the design intent and voice of the customer. Generation of Measurement Systems including CMM programming of new and existing parts and assemblies. Leading the studying of Repeatability and Reliability systems. Ongoing measurement of parts and assemblies to support first piece pass off and statistical process control. Liaise with Design and Tool Equipment Departments for creating technical drawing and make sure all the dimensions on the drawing can be measured on the CMM.

This role comes under the Brompton Quality Assurance team, you will be working across our “Advanced Quality Engineering Team” who’s focus is new and upcoming launches and our “Production Quality Team”. The role will be delivering Measurement Systems for new and existing parts and tooling and validating the measurement systems through Measurement System analysis. The role will also be responsible for the writing measurement plans which other members of the team are able to follow. It is anticipated that the 50% of time will be spent deploying measurement systems and taking measurements.

Brompton are building a dedicated metrology space to bring together all our metrology equipment and expand our capabilities. Knowledge of the specification and procurement of metrology equipment would be valuable.

The role will be responsible for the management of calibration within Brompton and working with external calibration partners.

Where necessary through capacity / capability the metrology lead will be responsible for liaising with external measurement services, including raising purchase orders and dispatching parts.

Brompton is made up of 4 manufacturing areas known as “factories”, the metrology lead is expected to direct technician resource in a matrix reporting model. Each factory will commit an amount of resource to metrology each week.

Job requirements

Qualifications and Experience Levels:

  • Advanced understanding of Technical Drawing, ISO GPS 1101 and BS8888 required
  • 5 years+ CMM Programming Capabilities required, CMM programming of complex shapes required
  • PCDMIS experience required
  • Experience in CMM measurement required
  • Polyworks experienced with experience on Roma type arm and advantage
  • Experienced in Vision Hawke an advantage
  • Experienced in Gauge R&R required, Minitab an advantage
  • Ability to use manual measurement equipment (micrometres, height gauges, etc
  • Advanced understanding and interpreting the measurement results are required
  • Experience in part measurement using different tools (calliper, micrometre etc)
  • Managing skill is required for prioritizing metrology requests and delivery the dimensional reports on time.
  • Responsible for calibration of the tools
