Job title: Manufacturing Support Engineer - NPPI

Department: Manufacturing Engineering

Responsible to: Manufacturing Engineering Manager

Salary: Competitive

Hours: 40 hours per week, excluding lunch breaks


Job Purpose

This role will be responsible for supporting manufacturing engineering projects in delivering manufacturing capability, flexibility, and efficiency by introducing new technologies, advanced manufacturing processes, automation, and digital integration. This will include analysing and improving processes, equipment, and factory layout as well as supporting new product introductions.

Main duties

  • Design and implement shop floor infrastructure
  • Create process flows, analyse, and improve them using LEAN principles of manufacturing
  • Support the work and projects of the manufacturing engineering team through practical assistance
  • Conduct timing studies for optimization
  • Create project plans and manage them to completion
  • The ability to create CAD models and 2D drawings of new parts and tools
  • Develop strong professional relationships that will enable you to work cross functionally when delivering tasks
  • Work closely with the Quality Assurance team to ensure that defects are minimised, recorded and acted upon
  • Work closely with the in-house Tooling & Equipment team to produce new jigs and fixtures
  • Produce Standard Operating Procedures
  • Work with suppliers to write technical specifications and deliver our requirements

Skills and Requirements

  • Good appreciation of LEAN principles and other manufacturing theories
  • Should possess strong analytical and statistical skills
  • Good understanding of engineering principles, good numeracy, and arithmetic skills
  • Problem solving experience using Root Cause Analysis, DMAIC or other techniques
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and efficient time management
  • Ability to work in a team or alone and unsupervised
  • A hands-on practical approach, with an understanding of workshop safety
  • Logical thinker, reliable, good record keeper, and ability to multitask
  • Highly computer literate
  • Right to work in the U.K

The Person

The person fulfilling this role will be expected to develop their own competences, deliver results within agreed timescales and ensure all work is done to the highest standards. They must be consistent in the manner they tackle all tasks which are given to them and be able to create practical procedures which ensure that all projects are completed accurately.

The successful candidate must be able to establish and build relationships with others by listening to what they have to say and then act. They must give support and practical advice in areas where experience and knowledge are needed.

The ideal candidate will have the focus and drive to achieve targets, budgets, and results. They must assert their authority when necessary to ensure agreed deadlines are achieved. They will draw conclusions by probing and contemplate the consequences of any action that is likely to be taken by proving the reliability of the information available.

Education

A degree in Engineering or a related field is desirable. The ability to demonstrate a solid engineering background in a relevant environment is essential, with at least 3 years’ experience in manufacturing.
