The role

The folding bike sector is going through rapid growth, Brompton has historically been unable to meet demand and this has been further compounded in recent times with the growth in interest in cycling. Through the implementation of Lean Manufacturing and Best Practice change management you should aim to maintain production output increase plans to enable rates of at least ~30% CAGR as and when demand requires, whilst improving safety, quality and efficiency.

We require a 'hands on' dynamic production leader with mechanical assembly experience, to lead a factory department and develop its team members, raising quality standards and improving process methods and systems. You will be expected to work as one of the team, carrying out the normal duties applicable to you along with engaging in company wide initiative and events.

Main duties

  • Support Development of team leadership structure, and personal development of the team leaders within the department.
  • Champion an open and constructive communication culture.
  • Coordinate support functions from Supply chain, Planning, Quality, Engineering and Design.
  • Own change initiatives related Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery and People, develop A3s and change plans to communicate future conditions to the team and stakeholders.
  • Embed a culture of continuous improvement and staff engagement in change, through implementation of lean manufacturing techniques, including removal of all non-value added operations and non-productive hours (7 Wastes), 5S, SMED, KAIZEN,.
  • Engage in S&OP process, owning activities to deliver planned and targeted volumes and mix requirements.
  • Organising the departmental workload to meet output targets and to ensure all production tasks are carried out as efficiently and cost effectively as possible.
  • Increase imbedding of visual factory to aid product flow and highlight bottlenecks and opportunities.
  • Engage production team in identifying new working practices to aid staff involvement and satisfaction.
  • Report daily, weekly and monthly, on department progress to established KPIs and objectives.
  • Responsible for clock card administration and absence management including return to work interviews.
  • Compliance with health and safety standards, investigate accidents, near misses and hazards to provide a safe working environment for our team and visitors.
  • Reporting production output to a range of KPI’s covering production performance (cost, quality and delivery) and raising all daily production issues to ensure they are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Liaising with other departments to ensure the smooth and efficient operating of the department
  • Developing effective and constructive solutions to challenges and obstacles in production activities and procedures to achieve and improve Cycle times time.
  • Efficient organisation and control of staff to balance the line flow, minimise line stoppages, achieve full flexibility and cover staff absences.

Additional duties:

You are part of the Manufacturing team and will work closely with the other manufacturing and support departments, to deliver the production growth targets. You will invest time with the functional leads from engineering, quality and planning to maximize impact and effectiveness of the integrated factory team.
