The role:

Working closely with support from the international controller, the local Japanese commercial team, and an external accounting firm, you will be responsible for ensuring that the finances of the business are accurate & timely and will be a key player in helping our Japanese business grow. Roles include financial accounting and reporting, accounts payable and receivable as well as assisting with budgeting and FP&A to help guide the commercial decision-making process in a small but effective local team. Our Japanese subsidiary is relatively new, meaning that this is a high growth and ever developing part of the group. This role represents an exciting opportunity to be a key part of our success in Japan.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Full ownership of the internal accounting and finance processes, including General ledger entries, accounts payable and receivable, credit control, as well as all other areas of accounting.
  • Internal reporting both to local and group management, providing internal reports and effective and insightful commentary.
  • Monitor and develop internal controls to build an effective control environment.
  • Perform month end procedures including balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Business partnering with other local functions such as marketing, sales, and retail teams.
  • Working with local advisory firm to ensure accurate submission of all externally required reporting, including consumption and corporation tax submissions and creation and submission of the annual statutory financial statements.
  • Planning - you’ll assist with the preparation of the detailed consolidated 5-year business plan including budget.

  • Evaluate situations, calculate, and reduce risk, justify and defend correctness, give reasons for views and generally provide shrewd judgement in any situation.

Desired Experience:

  • Qualified Accountant, either nationally accredited or degree in accounting.
  • Strong experience of bookkeeping and accountancy.
  • Background in a multi-channel business is preferred (wholesale, eCommerce, Retail), and preferably in a product-based environment over service-based experience.
  • Experience of working with a range of accounting systems and software.
  • 1-3 years in a similar role or from practice.
  • Proactive and flexible approach; willing to contribute to the ongoing development of the business.
